+Founded following //The Thirst//, the Kit Commune quickly became deeply matriarchal and focused around the teachings and leadership of [[T'ket]], the first Grand Matriarch and leader of the Kit diaspora nearly two thousand years ago. Over the subsequent generations, the Kit Commune would undergo several revisions until settling upon the current structure at the end of the Fourth Age. Despite changes to the structure of government, the line of succession (or elected bodies) has remained consistent throughout the Third and Fourth Ages. Historical documents trace the linage of several families, most notably the [[K'mnzi House]] directly to T'ket.

+The president is elected each year, without term limit. She is head of the Executive Branch of power and is responsible for ensuring the constitution is implemented. Though she is supposed to be the highest authority of government, in truth the Grand Matriarch (who controls the military) and the Den Mothers (who hold 1/3 of all council positions) typically hold significant political sway.
+President [[G'nikra Dmm'zan]] is the current sitting president. Dmm'zan, a self-described hard-line traditionalist, has pushed for greater independence, a reinstitution of the Grand Matriarch, and has called to reverse hard-won civil rights, specifically those in the area of [[Tog Suffrage]].
+Members of the cabinet, or Council of Ministers, are chosen by the president. They must be approved by parliament, which in 2419 rejected four of President Nah’hara’s initial nominees for her cabinet. Parliament can also impeach ministers.

+The judiciary ensures that the Den Mothers’ laws are enforced and defines legal policy. It also nominates the six lay members of the Joint Council. The head of the judiciary is appointed and reports directly to the Grand Matriarch.
+During the revolution of 2380, the hardliners used the judicial system to undermine reforms by imprisoning reformist personalities and journalists and closing down reformist papers. By 2420, [[Tra’q Kee]], of the powerful conservative Kee House, made the surprising decision to support, then actively push for, male suffrage.
