Biographical Highlights
Born in Honolulu, Michael showed an early interest in medical science. With the support of his parents, he pursued many early academic fields on the subject, completing two years of college before the conclusion of his secondary schooling.
He was well on his way to a career as a doctor when tragedy struck: a failure of the weather control station allowed a storm to ravage nearby Kauaʻi. Already two years into the Academy, the cadet joined rescue teams on the island.
From a biographical standpoint, what happened that day is not well documented, but on returning to the Academy several weeks later, Kellye switched his focus from that of a physician to a nurse. The official statement offered to leadership reports the cadet, “did not feel the focus of his study was in keeping with his interests or passions.”
Kellye excelled in the nursing program, though his sudden transfer and failure to adequately explain himself resulted in several demerits for insubordination. Despite his excellent finishing placement for the class of 2418, Kellye nevertheless was posted on the obscure starship Brahe that year.
